… Needed.  So, what am I talking about here?

I would venture to say that most of you have heard of ‘street teams’.  If not, I’ll quickly educate a bit.  Street teams have been utilized as part of grassroots, guerilla-style marketing efforts.  They have been in action for a while now, I believe since the ‘90’s, although that strategy may have been used before then.  The music industry was one of the very first to use such street teams, which are usually manned by young people.

As far as their activities, they did what their name implies, ‘hitting and working the streets’, usually putting up flyers, going door-to-door, posting bulletins, etc. to promote some type of big event or artist release.  And their main purpose is to engage consumers to create some type of memorable experience, and to hand out branded merchandise, usually freebies.  In the end there is a hope that street teams can start a viral process that grows into a marketing tsunami, since obviously they don’t have the reach of the more traditional media of television, radio and print.

Over the years other industries have used this strategy, as well as the film industry.  And that includes indies as well, since it is perceived to be a low cost activity.  So let’s take that idea farther, into the virtual world (which of course others already are doing).

Virtual Street Team – an organized group of passionate fans who are enlisted to get the word out online (through the many avenues and tools now available to them) about what someone or some company is doing.  Nowadays, we have Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Digg, Ning, Blogs, Email, Texting, RSS Feeds, Boards, Communities, Ezines, other video sharing sites, other social networking sites, etc., etc.  Actually too many to mention, or even remember these days.

Anyway, this is exactly what we need help with for getting the word out about ‘Dreams Awake’.  To be perfectly blunt, we are in search of our own personal virtual street team.  So, exactly what are we looking for?  We want people who are enthusiastic, team players, who are engaged online and know their way around, and of course, are passionate about our film.  If that applies to you, please contact us and we’ll give you more specific details about you can help us get “Dreams Awake” out to more people.  Thanks!

Oh, and by the way, today is an anniversary for this blog.  Yes, I have now been writing it for six years.  We started on March 15, 2005 as Indie film Blog, and migrated here last May.  Wow, hard to believe we go that far back.  Makes me wonder how far forward we’ll be going.
