As I mentioned in my previous blog entry I was heading to Austin to finish shooting our promo teaser trailer we started last year. We got sidetracked with other activities that didn’t allow us to finish it in a timely manner. Well I recently got back, and after looking at all the footage it seems we have all the elements needed to finally finish it all up.

We had to shoot a completely new scene, reshoot a previous one with a green screen, and then insert a closeup shot from a previously shot scene. It only took us the better part of a day, but it was well worth it. Thanks to all the cast and crew for their hard work!

Heather and Eric, our makeup specialists, worked hard on the scene where we had to age the character Adam played, from 30 to 80 years old.

Some have asked us why we feel the need to shoot a trailer of the film before we even shoot the film. Good question, but some of you probably already know it is not as novel as it used to be. In fact, one of the more famous cases is the Coen’s brothers first film, “Blood Simple,” shot about 30 years ago. And ever since scores of indies have used this method to build interest in their films. But the main reason is to have a calling card to show potential investors what you are trying to do with your film, so they might be less hesitant to loosen their wallets for your particular project.

Yet now that idea has expanded even more with the phenomenal growth of crowdfunding. Since you really do need a pitch video for your crowdfunding campaign, shooting a teaser trailer before hand can enhance that video. It makes people feel like you have a actual idea and feel for what you’re doing.

We will of course be using this trailer for standalone purposes, but if (when?) we do our own crowdfunding program we will have it available as part of that pitch video.

So anyway, we are working on the edit of the trailer right now and hope to finish it soon!
